I still remember it like it was yesterday. I was at a music festival in Tampa Florida, when Josh White, front-man of Tampa based hardcore band Strengthen What Remains, asked if he could talk to me. I knew something was up because Josh only spoke like that when it was important. He told me about his feelings & attraction for a girl named Brittany McMackin, who was in the crowd, and how she would never like him. I told him to tell her how he felt and he replied with, “No, it won’t happen. I will just be her friend and hope one day she likes me.” Years later, March 7th, 2015, Christa and I were honored to photograph their vintage/DIY hardcore-styled wedding. It is rare to think of a couple whose love is so pure, genuine, and self-sacrificing.
Brittany is extremely close with her grandmother and has always followed in her tradition of collecting owl memorabilia. In remembrance of that, Josh did not get a wedding ring but a tattoo of an owl to symbolize that Brittany had caught his heart and attention. The reception was held at The Bricks – a local bar/restaurant where a lot of the music scene from Ybor City frequent. Local band, Blacksmith, opened the night and the first dances with a collection of covers by the legendary band The Cure. It doesn’t get much more Punk Rock than that.
